Sympathetic Lightning works with clients locally and nationwide to create high-quality portrait, event, food, and street photography. For the last several years, I've worked with restaurant owners, creative directors, individual clients, newspapers, and art galleries to create the works below, among many other projects. It's hard to say which realm of photography I prefer, since I've found all of them expand my creativity and my skillset.
In a world where we are constantly told to niche down, I've found it more fulfilling to keep an open mind in regard to the projects I accept. It keeps me on my toes, and it means getting to discover new things and challenge myself. Events, food, and portraits are all my favorite genres of photography to work in so far, but I'm willing to consider projects across the board. If we can vibe and the schedules align, chances are, I’m in.
I tend toward using cameras from the Fuji X series, but I'm certainly not above using a classic Nikon DSLR when that's the best tool for the job. I favor manual lenses and the unique colors of my photos are in part thanks to a set of vintage SMC Takumars, though I occasionally use more modern lenses where it seems appropriate. Most if not all of these photos have been edited uses Affinity Photo, which I prefer to Adobe products.
